Environmental Consulting Services

Pillar Engineering and Inspection provides Environmental Site Assessments to CSA standards in order to ensure proper risk management of subsurface contaminants and to help the client make an informed decision about property value and potential liability. Our reports are accepted by lending institutions throughout Canada.

Environmental Site Assessments

Quality, time-sensitive reports are prepared to identify potential areas of environmental concern.  Concerns are quantified by testing the subsurface conditions of the site and solutions are provided to mitigate risks. Any known contamination impacts can then be remediated and samples of the area are conducted after remediation.

ESAs are conducted in 3 phases:

Phase I
Identify potential concerns through site visits, review of past environmental reports (if available) and relevant documents (ie. land use titles, historical photographs) and interviews with onsite personnel.  Current and historical use of adjacent properties is also considered.  A report is prepared which includes recommendations to mitigate risks.

Phase II
Identify, characterize and quantify contaminants through testing. Samples and materials testing takes place, followed by laboratory analysis and results. A report including results and recommendations is prepared, which includes the scope of the found contaminants and considerations for future testing, if required.

Phase III
Remediate any known contaminants.  Costs, timelines and options are provided, to develop a remedial strategy for the treatment, removal and management of contaminants.  Remediation work begins and site progress is communicated and documented.  A final report is prepared, confirming the removal and treatment of contaminants.  Laboratory data is provided to verify the current status of the site.  We assist with the reclamation certificate application process, as the final step in restoring the site to good standing.

Indoor Air Assessments and Testing

Pillar Engineering and Inspection has an experienced team of specialists and engineers to address and monitor air quality issues. The release of gases or particles into the air, combined with inadequate ventilation, is the primary source of indoor air quality problems. This can result in issues ranging from unpleasant smells in the air to illnesses. We provide heating, ventilation, air conditioning and facility inspections, as well as professional sample collection.

Monitoring is provided for the following substances:

asbestos, biologically derived airborne contaminants, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds, total particulates and gluteraldehyde.

Recommendations are made to increase indoor air quality, ensuring a healthy, productive living or working environment.
